News in brief

S Philip’s Summer Fayre

The Summer Fayre took place at Moorside School on Saturday, 11th July.  Folks worked hard and trade was brisk.  We made £1, 000 on the nail, which is a considerable increase on last year’s total.  Thank you very much to all those who contributed to this great success.

Requiem for the victims of the London bombings

On Wednesday, 13th July we sang a High Mass of Requiem for the victims of the London bombings.  It was a moving event and good to welcome a number of visitors.  Since then, of course, there have been further terrorist attacks in other parts of the world.  Please continue to remember all those who lives have been devastated by these acts of brutal violence.

CHAT Shop AGM

The CHAT Shop AGM took place on Saturday, 16th July at the Hub.  The turnout, it has to be said, was disappointing.  None-the-less, the meeting heard of the considerable progress that the CHAT Shop and its projects have made over the past year.  The CHAT Shop has grown a great deal over the past few years and, as the current projects achieve independence, we are looking to develop new directions in the months ahead.  The Annual Report is on the website; and, hopefully, we shall see an increase of interest from the congregations before the AGM next year.

Building work

Work continues on the Hall and it is looking quite smart; work on the shop continues and, hopefully, will resume trading over the summer months.  A recent survey found asbestos in parts of the Hall; some of this will have to be removed at a substantial cost.  The Quinquennial Inspection is due on the whole building complex and we can be sure that there will be large amounts of work to undertake – quite a lot of which, alas, was identified during the previous inspection.

Funerals

Please pray for those whose funerals have been conducted over the past two months:

Thomasina TURNBULL (24th June)

Josephine Mary BENNETT (6th July)

Thomas William George REED (14th July)

Eva CAIRNS (22nd July)
